Militants attacked a health centre in Orakzai, a district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
province in western Pakistan, leading to the deaths of two police officers and three militants. The
health centre was involved in an anti-polio campaign and health workers were attacked as they
prepared to go on a door-to-door vaccination campaign, which is typically escorted by the police.
No group has claimed the attack; however, the location is within a traditional stronghold of the
Pakistani Taliban (Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, or TTP).
On 1 November, at least seven people were killed after an improvised explosive device (IED)
detonated near a girl’s school in southwestern Pakistan in the restless Balochistan province. The
police claim that the intended target was police van which was going to pick up a polio vaccination
team.
